Create Resilience Model

create resilience model

Create Resilience Model is the foremost process for fostering resilience.  This model a.k.a. ANAPNEA comprises the following seven steps:  Assess, Nurture, Accept, Practice, Notice, Empower and Act.

These steps flow logically, a continuum, designed to build on each other to construct the optimal process for creating resilience, a return to normal breath and joyful living. The steps may be acted on individually or in any sequence.  Ideally all of the steps should be considered and employed, to build, strengthen and augment one’s resilience life skills.

ANAPNEA is truly a fitting acronym for this model as in medical terminology it is “the recovery or restoration of one’s breath after a period of halted respiration”. Halted, diminished or impaired respiration is precisely what occurs when one’s life is disrupted – one can experience an absence of normal breath and/or life (i.e. a stifling, smothering or drowning of life).

Determine where you are experiencing stress, trauma or loss and how it has impacted you? Emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually? It is important to understand where you need to focus your awareness, your effort and your action to create resilience. Be aware of the strengths in your values, skills and interests to recognize and assess opportunities for change as you move through the ‘Create Resilience’ process.  READ MORE

2. Nurture

Learn to love yourself first. Treat yourself as you would a loved one or close friend e.g. trust, congratulate and encourage yourself. Treat your body as your temple; it is your best and only unconditional friend in life. Apply all the positive ‘self-‘ experiences: self-acceptance, self-care, self-help, self-assurance, self-esteem, self-regulate, etc. You are creating the energy necessary to embrace change and be more resilient. Cultivate relationships for they are the only thing that truly matters in life. READ MORE

3. Accept

Acceptance is an essential step in true healing. Foster the courage to look reality in the eye with humility, and the wisdom to discard that which no longer serves you. Clinging and longing are the source of all suffering.  Nature is the ultimate teacher of both acceptance and resilience through its perpetual dance of persistent renewal.  READ MORE

Practice the powerful healing emotions of compassion, forgiveness, gratitude and realistic optimism. These are the portals that will open us to a life filled with achievable opportunities, positive relationships and love. Resilience is less about our innate qualities and more about how we think about ourselves and interpret the world around us.  You are in charge of how you think and how you feel – choose positive thoughts and emotions, choose happiness. Practice is the hardest part of learning yet a daily practice paves the road to transformation and resilience. READ MORE

Embrace every experience as an opportunity to grow, learn from every loss to transform and uncover a healthier version of you.  Reframe every loss experience by challenging your beliefs and trusting your inner wisdom to change and reverse the wounds of loss.  Believe in yourself.  Desire, hope and dream to uncover your potential.  READ MORE

Liberate yourself from being the victim; misfortune is not your fault, it is inevitable for everyone.  It is life, and we are all in this together – to learn. Confront your fears as opportunities to grow stronger and claim your life.   Foster the mental strength to never give up at living your passion, and to think in a new way.  Conquer your self-limiting beliefs with a new and empowering belief system. Be persistent with self-motivation to instill the courage, strength and drive to take the next steps.   READ MORE

Make realistic plans where you are capable of taking the steps to see them through. Be committed to living a resilient life by integrating these seven resiliency components into your daily life. Most importantly, take action, even if it is just to take the next small step. READ MORE

  1. I have also found that this model can be used if you may be encountering an unexpected health setback – the steps, starting with ‘Assess’ and concluding with ‘Act’ all flow logically and build nicely upon one another.
