Create Resilience Model is the foremost process for fostering resilience. This model a.k.a. ANAPNEA comprises the following seven steps: Assess, Nurture, Accept, Practice, Notice, Empower and Act.
These steps flow logically, a continuum, designed to build on each other to construct the optimal process for creating resilience, a return to normal breath and joyful living. The steps may be acted on individually or in any sequence. Ideally all of the steps should be considered and employed, to build, strengthen and augment one’s resilience life skills.
ANAPNEA is truly a fitting acronym for this model as in medical terminology it is “the recovery or restoration of one’s breath after a period of halted respiration”. Halted, diminished or impaired respiration is precisely what occurs when one’s life is disrupted – one can experience an absence of normal breath and/or life (i.e. a stifling, smothering or drowning of life).
Determine where you are experiencing stress, trauma or loss and how it has impacted you? Emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually? It is important to understand where you need to focus your awareness, your effort and your action to create resilience. Learn to love yourself first. Treat yourself as you would a loved one or close friend e.g. trust, congratulate and encourage yourself. Treat your body as your temple; it is your best and only unconditional friend in life. Apply all the positive ‘self-‘ experiences: self-acceptance, self-care, self-help, self-assurance, self-esteem, self-regulate, etc. You are creating the energy necessary to embrace change and be more resilient. I have also found that this model can be used if you may be encountering an unexpected health setback – the steps, starting with ‘Assess’ and concluding with ‘Act’ all flow logically and build nicely upon one another.
